How to purchase and activate new Line sticker for your beloved Windows Phone 7.5 & 8
Now a day, most of the people who own smart phone should have at least 1 instant messaging application installed on their beloved smartphone.
"Line", is one of the most popular instant messaging application that has the "Unique" feature which you can't find in any other instant messaging, it is the ability to send the "Sticker" to express your emotion instead of typing long text. "Line" also has its own in app purchase called "Line sticker shop" which available in iOS and Android platform.
What about the Windows Phone platform?
No words (official words) from Naver (dev. of Line chat) about the update schedule of Line for Windows Phone. So, since we can't rely on the dev and don't know when to expect, we should stand on our own feet for a moment (hope that not too long).
So, I wrote this basic guide about how to purchase new sticker and make it available on your Windows Phone device. This guide compatible with both WP7.5 and 8. I used this method since I was with my Lumia 900 and it's work for me. Hope this can help you too.
What we need to have?
1. The WP device (off course) either WP 7.5 or 8, no brand restriction here.
2. 1 of iOS or Android device with Line installed and able to do the in app purchase (credit card must be tied up with either Apple ID or Play Store ID)
3. E-mail for registration.
Let's start!!
1. On your WP device, open the Line app and go to "Setting" menu (Top right of the screen)
2. Then, look for "Email registration" menu.
3. On this screen, app will ask you to provide the valid e-mail address for registration. This email will be used as "Line account" and will collect all your information related to Line product (Line contact, Purchase history etc..). This is the mandatory process, if you don't register with email, your purchased sticker won't be restored/transferred when you change to another device.
** The screen captured below is mine which already registered. So, you will see the different screen here, but keep on register.
Note: Before you proceed to step 4, if you have any images or chat history in your Line and want to keep it, make sure to back it up before proceed to step 4. Once you switch your Line account to another device, all chat history will be deleted from your current device.
*** Step 1-3 are the 1 time process, no need to do this again in the future.
4. Go to your either iOS or Android device (if you don't have one, your friends are the best option here). Delete the existing "Line" application to remove the previous user's details (Line doesn't have the "Log out" function, so delete and reinstall is the only option here. Make sure if this ok for your friends in case you borrowed their device). After re-installation, open "Line" app and choose "Line user login" to login with your email account you just registered.
5. Once logged in, "Shopping time" go to the "Sticker shop" and buy whatever you want.
6. After the shopping time, back to your WP device and open Line app. You will see the interface as shown below. Because Line allow 1 account to be active only on 1 smartphone device at a time. If you activate your Line account on another device, all data within the previous device will be deleted automatically. Don't panic, just tap "Ok" and the app will be closed.
7. Open "Line" again, then complete the ID activation process as usual (enter your phone number, get the verified code from sms)
8. Proceed with the registration process until you see the big bear screen (as shown below). Then, tap on "Login with email" button.
** This process is important, if you tap on continue, your purchased item/sticker won't be restored on your WP device **
9. Provide the email address as you specified in step 3) and tap on "Register"
This process will automatically delete all your Line account data you active on iOS or Android device on step 4-5)
10. Wait till the app finish the restoration process. Once finished, try to chat with someone and navigate to "Sticker" icon and try to swipe the screen left or right to browse for your purchased sticker. (sometimes, you won't see your sticker until you swipe the screen a bit)
11. After you found it, tap on the sticker and you will see the "Download" screen. Download it and done. You have the new sticker on your WP now. (Download process required once, next time you open the app, all stickers will be ready for you).
That's all about the purchase & transfer Line sticker to your WP device.
As I mentioned in earlier, this is just a work around process while we waiting for Naver to update their app for out OS.
Those process may look a bit complicated, but after you do it once, the next time will be lot easier.
I did this for months, and now I can complete all steps within 5 minutes or less. That's good enough for me while I sit and wait to hear a good news from Naver ^^.
